Growth Potentials in Several Provinces / Focus on Small and Medium Sized, Community-Focused Projects in the Maritimes, Ontario and British Columbia

Catégories : Pressnews, Wind

BOULDER, CO (USA), 02/21/12. juwi has expanded its North American footprint into Canada continuing juwi's worldwide growth and expansion efforts. juwi Wind Canada LTD, a wholly owned subsidiary of the juwi Group, is focused on all aspects of wind project development from site identification to finance, construction and operations. juwi also brings capabilities for long term ownership and operation along with a 16 year history of successfully partnering with communities and financing renewable energy projects around the world.

'The Canadian market is a natural fit for juwi. We see strong growth in several provinces for projects less than 50 megawatts. Small and mid-sized projects like these can be more closely integrated with the local communities which the projects serve. juwi has developed and built over 800 megawatts of wind projects almost exclusively in these small to mid-project sizes and they've been colored with strong community involvement, engagement, and community investment,' stated Michael Rucker, CEO of juwi Wind Canada.

juwi Wind Canada is actively looking for development partners and projects which could benefit from juwi's financial strength and development expertise, so to help realize the projects and maintain their financial health through long term ownership and operation. juwi's diversification strategy in North America also allows investment in projects that are not subject to the uncertainty of USA Production Tax Credit (PTC) extension. 'Lack of a long-term, stable policy in the USA will deny jobs and other benefits to US communities if the US PTC is not extended soon. We are pleased that Canadian policymakers have taken a longer-term view to their benefit,' stated Rucker.

As part of entering the market, juwi has joined the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) and is initially focusing its efforts in small and medium sized, community-focused projects in the Maritimes, Ontario and British Columbia. juwi's North American headquarters are in Boulder, Colorado, USA.

The juwi group

juwi is one of the world's leading specialists for renewable energies with a strong regional presence. Our goal: 100 percent renewable energies. Our impetus: Work together to implement renewable energies economically and reliably with passion. From site selection to planning, construction and financing up to management -- juwi is the competent partner for the energy transition with a regional focus. Besides solar, wind and bio energy, company activities include hydropower and geothermal energy as well as Green Buildings and E-mobility. juwi was founded in 1996 by Matthias Willenbacher and Fred Jung in Rhineland-Palatinate. Today, the company employs more than 1,700 people in 15 countries and had an annual turnover of more than a billion Euro ($1.32 billion US) in 2011.

Up to date, juwi has constructed around 525 wind turbines with an output of around 920 megawatts; in the solar sector more than 1,500 solar power plants with a total output of around 950 megawatts. These plants generate approx. 3.5 billion kilowatt hours of green energy per year; this corresponds to the annual power consumption of approx. a million households. For the realization of these projects juwi has initiated an investment of more than four billion Euro.

juwi is one of Germany's best and most sought-after employers. In 2011, the company was among the Top 20 (in the category 501 to 2,000 employees) in the renowned competition organized by the 'Great Place to Work Institute.' The juwi group has offices in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic, Greece, Poland, Bulgaria, Great Britain, India, Singapore, South Africa, Chile, the USA and Costa Rica. In Germany, juwi has subsidiaries and regional offices in twelve German states.

Company receives “Axia Award 2011 Rhine-Main“ / Prize for clear strategic direction and effective, flexible business management

Catégories : Pressnews, Company

Frankfurt/Wörrstadt, 02/15/2012. Another award for the juwi group. On Monday, the German leading renewable energy company received the “Axia Award 2011 Rhine-Main”, advertised by Deloitte, a leading accounting and consulting company. juwi COO Jochen Magerfleisch, who accepted the award in Frankfurt, sees the prize as a confirmation of juwi’s chosen path: "Of course, we have a very well-structured controlling. Of course, we make sure that every project is efficient. However, we do not lead our employees according to these financial ratios. We practice a value-oriented and consensus-oriented management system. The focus is on people.”

The jury, chaired by Peter Steiner, praised the juwi group as a role model for the economy: “The juwi Holding AG provided a convincing and consistent set of measures across all areas. Based on an ideal strategic orientation, all respective actions such as a comprehensive controlling up to a supportive staff management are realized successoriented. juwi has also positioned itself as a role model for the economy on another level - as the company plans to offer renewable electricity with production costs way below the selling prices of the big energy companies. The juwi Holding AG demonstrates in an impressive way that it is "Fit for Tomorrow", and is therefore a worthy laureate. "

With its prize, Deloitte awards medium-sized companies that sustainably succeed on the market with their outstanding achievements on the basis of sustained excellence. The juwi group was awarded for its clear strategic orientation, an efficient and flexible controlling and staff management. Other laureates were the STI Group, Fissler and HMG Hotel Management and Service mbH & Co. KG. In an assessment process Deloitte examined 28 medium-sized companies to select the best in the Rhine-Main region. The company’s CEO’s had to fill out an extensive questionnaire and were interviewed in person. The jury chose the winners based on these evaluations.

Germany exported power constantly – no need for a crisis team

Munster - Despite the freezing cold and the alleged shortage of electricity due to the activation of the cold reserve, Germany has continuously exported power for the past days.

Catégories : Pressmirror

An analysis of the European electricity network operator came to this result, announced the International Economic Platform for Renewable Energies (IWR) in Munster. "In the period between the 7th and the 10th of February, Germany was always a net electricity exporter", said IWR Director Dr. Norbert Allnoch in Munster. France, however, depended on imports and aid from neighbouring countries during the whole period of analysis, Allnoch says. The German government denied the news, spread by the Welt am Sonntag (WamS), that a crisis team has been set up.

Germany exports power constantly

Germany exported more power than it imported at every hour of the examined period. The power demand reached an average of 49,400 megawatts (MW). At this point, the cold reserve is activated. This has caused much discussion about the alleged shortage of electricity in Germany’s media. The peak demand for electricity in Germany was reached between 6 and 7 pm on 8.2.2012 with 57,023 MW. Even at this time of high demand, Germany could export considerable amounts of power to its neighbours, for instance to Switzerland (1,603 MW), France (761 MW), Poland (1,034 MW), and Austria (614 MW). In sum, the current export reached, on balance, approx. 2,900 MW during this hour. This corresponds to the performance of almost three nuclear power plants. The total capacity of all power generation capacity in Germany is still at 160,000 MW—even after the shutdown of nuclear power plants. Together, wind and solar energy plants have contributed to Germany’s electricity generation at any time during the period; at peak times wind and solar energy produced more than 11,000 MW.

France in need: Energy consumption rises to about 100,000 MW

Because of the cold weather, the demand for electricity has risen to a record level in France. French houses are often heated with electricity; moreover, they are often poorly isolated. In the period under examination, the French power requirement was almost twice as high as in Germany. Between 7.2. and 10.2.2012, France thus had to rely on all of its neighbours; despite the high number of nuclear power plants, France needed to import energy at every hour. In France, the peak demand for energy was also reached on the 8.2.2012 between 6 and 7 pm; the demand for power, however, exceeded 100,000 MW. Great Britain (1,978 MW), Belgium (2,011 MW), Germany (761 MW), Italy (722 MW), and Switzerland (1,625 MW) had to help out: Only during this hour of peak demand, they delivered more than 7,000 MW to France.

PV Plant Morašice supplies more than 1,000 households with clean solar power.

Catégories :

Prague/Wörrstadt, January 12, 2012. 3,000 people in the heart of the Czech Republic could welcome the new year with a good conscience. The reason: They cover their energy needs with regionally produced clean solar power. Thus, they avoid more than 1,200 tons of the harmful greenhouse gas CO2 in one single year. After the successful commissioning in late 2009 and two years of controlled operation, the solar park Morašice has now been sold to the Czech investor Ing. Jiri Fast, under participation of the Czech bank LBBW.

The high-tech plant has been constructed by the juwi group, a specialist for renewable
energies based in Wörrstadt in Rhineland-Palatinate. COO Jochen Magerfleisch is
convinced of the Czech Republic’ s potential, despite reluctant support from the political
side: ”Solar power is a central element of a comprehensive power supply based on
renewable energies. The urgently needed energy transition on a European level based on 100 percent renewable energies cannot be realized without the expansion of solar power.”

In Morašice, 14,200 First Solar thin-film modules with a total capacity of 1,065 kilowatts
peak (kWp) are installed on a Schletter GmbH substructure. Two SMA Sunny Central 500 kW inverters convert the produced energy into alternating current. Since December 2009, power is fed into the Czech grid – with an annual yield of 1.16 million kilowatt hours (kWh).

Wörrstadt January 3, 2012. The construction of the third building complex at juwi headquarters in Wörrstadt advances with great strides. The basement and the first floor have already been established; the prefabricated wooden wall elements for the upper floors are being put up at the moment; next will be the elements for the ceiling and the roof. The carcass work for the first part of the building consisting of a reception, offices, meeting rooms and the boardroom was completed in December 2011. At the beginning of June 2012, about 400 juwi employees will be able to move into their new offices. juwi will continue to grow in 2012 and will thus also recruit new employees.

The juwi group looks back on a successful year 2011. Regarding the upcoming year, there is much reason for optimism for the project developer based in Rhine-Hesse. The company will continue to grow in 2012. Therefore, numerous recruitments are planned, especially in the project management section. juwi also looks for engineers for other key positions. “juwi belongs to the best employers in Germany. We offer our employees more than a secure job. Our employees feel comfortable at work; they are highly motivated and recognize the sense and value of their job,” says Matthias Willenbacher, CEO of the juwi group. “Every colleague contributes to our goal of reaching 100% renewables as soon as possible,” adds CEO Fred Jung. juwi will again recruit apprentices in 2012. 40 apprenticeship places are still to be filled. The spectrum ranges from draftsmen or commercial professions up to warehouse logistics specialists.

At the moment, the third building complex is being established on an area of 2,000 square meters at juwi headquarters. It consist of two parts of 11,000 m² gross floor area in total and encompasses a building with a reception, offices, meeting rooms and the boardroom as well as a second building with the staff restaurant. The restaurant can accommodate more than 700 persons and can provide meals for up to 2,000 employees at lunchtime. The restaurant is also the central room for events. With the new building, events with up to 1,000 persons can be held.

In respect to energy efficiency, the new building complex sets new standards: An energysaving design as well as a new LED conception will minimize energy needs. The new canteen kitchen will also contribute to climate protection. As before, the kitchenware will be energy-efficient; moreover, the cooks and kitchen staff will predominantly work with food produced in the region. The building has been developed by the juwi subsidiary Green Buildings. “The primary energy needs - heat, warm water and electricity - will come completely from renewable energies such as wind, solar and bio energy,” says Ralf Ratanski, executive director of Green Buildings. At the site, a 5.6 megawatt solar park, seven solar carports with a 9,000m² module area and 16 wind turbines cater for green energy. The remaining energy will be fed into the grid.

In the future, juwi headquarters in Wörrstadt (Rhine-Hesse) will provide space for 1,500 employees. In order for them to combine family and work, juwi also expands the in-house kindergarten “juwelchen”. When the construction work will be completed in spring, up to 70 children from one to six years can be looked after all-day.

juwi moved into its headquarters in Wörrstadt in 2008. It has been expanded twice, in 2009 and 2010. The headquarters is known to be one of the world’s most energy-efficient office buildings. Therefore, juwi was awarded with the German Climate Protection Prize in 2008. In 2011, the federal association of green economy, UnternehmensGrün e.V., awarded the juwi group with the golden label “CO2-neutral-company” for energy-efficient economic management. The association’s aim is to inspire more companies for climatefriendly business. The focus lies on the reduction of emission at a company’s headquarters. juwi serves as a good example. The company’s climate neutral energy conception consists of the vehicle fleet’s conversion to electric cars, the guidelines for business trips (preferably train instead of plane) as well as the in-house shuttle service, which runs from train stations and parking spaces to the headquarters.

In 2012, juwi-founders Fred Jung and Matthias Willenbacher also want to give the population of the region the opportunity to participate in the conversion of our energy supply. “The great interest in our new investment, juwi RegioEnergie Festzins I, encouraged us to combine environment protection and investment,” says Willenbacher. Thus, juwi Invest GmbH, founded in December 2011, will continue to work on environmentally sensible investments and offer them on the capital market.

juwi deconstructed more than ten “elderly” windmills of the 1990s in 2011 and replaced them with modern and far more powerful turbines. The project developer will enforce this procedure, called “repowering”, considerably in 2012. “We have planned to deconstruct approximately 50 old turbines,” says juwi-CEO Matthias Willenbacher. The new wind energy plants are capable of generating 20-times more green energy. They are higher, rotate slower and are therefore nearly inaudible at ground level.

In the solar sector development advances quickly, too. “Twelve years ago, my first solar power plant was five times more expensive than today,” Willenbacher recalls. “This is an incredible success.” Even the sometimes heard reproach that PV-plants are being subsidized by all electricity rate payers because of the share in costs (“EEG-Umlage”) cannot be upheld any longer. Willenbacher: “In 2012, the feed-in compensation for solar power will come below the private electricity rate.”
